An Introduction to Stimulant Use Disorders: A Primer for the Healthcare Provider

First hour will be didactic, followed by 30 minutes for Q & A and discussion. Brought to you by AKSAM in partnership with the Opioid Response Network (ORN).
Presenter:
Dr. Shannon Boustead is a Family Physician at Sea Mar Community Health Centers in Washington State, where he has practiced since 2011. After more than a decade providing comprehensive primary care, his work now focuses on Addiction Medicine and building strong continuums of care for patients with substance use disorders. He serves as faculty for the Sea Mar Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program and recently served as Medical Advisor to Whatcom County Health and Community Services in shaping the county’s opioid response strategy. Dr. Boustead is also a board member of the Washington State Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, where he helps advance evidence-based approaches to substance use disorder treatment and care integration across the state
Learning Objectives
- Understand the role of psychostimulants in the overdose epidemic and recognize population disparities.
- Recognize signs of stimulant intoxication, overdose (overamping), and withdrawal.
- Identify evidence-based medications and behavioral health interventions to treat StUD.
- Recognize the 7 underlying principles of contingency management.
- Name at least 2 common co-morbid medical or psychiatric conditions associated with StUD.
