2018 Alaska Family Physician of the Year
Dr. Tracy Slager was born and raised in North Carolina where she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree. Prior to starting medical school, she worked as an athletic trainer and completed the prestigious Athletic Training Fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. She graduated from Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia Campus in 2009 and completed her residency at Nellis AFB, NV in 2012. Her focus in residency was Women’s Health and Obstetrics.
Dr. Slager was lucky enough to be stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf- Richardson from 2012 – 2015 which is where she and her husband fell in love with Alaska. She continued to do obstetrics and full spectrum Family Medicine after her separation from the Air Force in 2015, now working at Capstone Clinic in Wasilla, Alaska.
Dr. Slager has been active in the Alaska Academy of Family Physicians as an ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics) instructor since 2012. In September 2015 she became involved with the Academy’s Education Committee and has chaired the extremely successful Winter Update every year since.
Dr. Slager and her husband have two small children, and enjoy hiking, playing in the snow, ice fishing, photography and all that Alaska’s wide outdoors have to offer. She loves practicing full spectrum, cradle to grave Family Medicine in such a extraordinary place.
Please join the Alaska Academy of Family Physicians in congratulating Dr. Slager for dedication to family medicine in the state of Alaska.
